OXNARD, CA - Good news has hit for buyers looking to maximize mango sales! Freska Produce International has recently announced that it has certified and begun to harvest and pack in Chiapas and Oaxaca, Mexico, for the Mexican mango season.

“We will increase our volume 30 percent over last year with a combination of a brand-new pack house coming in line first part of February along with added production from new groves coming into production,” said Jesus “Chuy” Loza of Freska. “Freska will offer special packs along with the standard 4 kilo mango box, clamshell, bags, and a 5 Down configuration (22 lb/10 kilo).”

With a focus on quality, food safety, and Fair Trade mangos, the producer will be supplying its partners with organic and conventional mangos through September of this year. Last year, the provider returned nearly $700,000 to growers and packers in Mexico through the Fair Trade program.

First to be harvested is Freska’s Ataulfo “Honey” Mangos. As reported in a recent press release, this year’s crop looks to be very nice and has plentiful mangos currently available. Chiapas is expected to start out with larger-sized Ataulfos, while Oaxaca will have more medium to smaller fruit.

Freska will also begin harvesting the Red Mango Tommy Akins variety in about two to three weeks.

As the supplier noted in its release, Mexico is a major player in the mango market, as last year it produced 65 million lbs of mangos for the United States market, an increase of 12 percent over the previous year.
