GLENNVILLE, GA - Sweet innovations are taking the spotlight at this year’s Southeast Produce Council’s (SEPC) Southern Innovations. Steven Shuman, Vice President of Sales for G&R Farms, let me in on what the grower is planning on bringing to the southern stage this year, and you don’t want to pass the booth by.

“We’ll be highlighting our new Peruvian Sweet Onion crop. This includes our traditional Peruvian sweets, Sweet Red onions, and organics,” Steven shares. “For more than 14 years, we have been expanding our Peruvian onion program to offer a year-round supply of sweet onions that seamlessly transitions from Vidalia® onions to Peru and continues to provide the same sweet onion that consumers know and love.”

This is the first full season that G&R Farms’ new equipment will be 100 percent operational, Steven continues. The new packing line started coming online near the beginning of the Vidalia season, but all the facility upgrades and machine operations were not complete until near the end of the season.

“Getting to work a full season with the equipment in place and all the team trained on new operations will yield huge dividends in time, efficiency, and quality for our Peruvian season, which we believe our customers will see and feel,” states Steven. “We are proud of the work our production crew in Peru does to work hand in hand with our U.S. Production and Research Manager Cliff Riner to oversee the right combination of varieties and production techniques to get the highest quality and flavor everyone expects.”
