Publix Promotes Kevin Murphy to Chief Executive Officer Role and Names Newest Executive Chairman and President
LAKELAND, FL - Who is taking up the integral role of Chief Executive Officer for the ever-growing retail chain Publix? It has officially been announced that President Kevin Murphy will be promoted to CEO effective January 1, 2024, while current CEO Todd Jones will become Executive Chairman. As this transition takes place, Senior Vice President John Goff will be promoted to President and Chairman Ed Crenshaw will remain on the board as Chairman Emeritus.
Publix’s newly named CEO Murphy began his career in 1984 as a Front Service Clerk in Margate, Florida. According to a press release, he worked in various positions before becoming a Store Manager in 1995, District Manager in 2003, Regional Director in 2009, and Vice President of the Miami Division in 2014.
In 2016, the retail exec was promoted to Senior Vice President of Retail Operations before being named President in 2019.
Ahead of his transition to Executive Chairman, Jones commented on the two recent appointments. He has served as CEO since 2019.
“We are delighted to have leaders with the experience of Kevin and John who are ready to take the next steps in their careers,” said Jones. “I am confident in their ability to lead our company into the future and to continue to make Publix a great place to shop for our customers and a great place to work for our associates.”
Incoming Chairman Emeritus Crenshaw also commented on this transition.
“Todd has been an outstanding leader,” said Ed Crenshaw. “He has been committed to continuing Publix’s success and passionate about the development and promotion of our associates. We’re pleased he will continue to provide leadership to our company as Executive Chairman.”
Taking over as President, Goff began his career in 1991 in Jacksonville, Florida. In 2005, he became Store Manager, and in 2010, was promoted to District Manager. Goff’s other roles include serving as Regional Director in 2014, Vice President of the Miami Division in 2019, and Senior Vice President of Retail Operations in 2022.
