Veg-Fresh Farms Secures Equitable Food Initiative Certification; Jasmin Amigon, Molly Williams, and Adriana Martinez Comment
CORONA, CA - Veg-Fresh Farms is relishing an exciting achievement, as the company has secured Equitable Food Initiative (EFI) certification at two of its packing facilities and citrus fields.
“EFI has provided mind-opening guidance not just for management but for our entire workforce, farmworkers included,” commented Jasmin Amigon, Veg-Fresh Food Safety and Social Responsibility Coordinator, who credits a positive culture shift in the company’s facilities to its work with EFI.
As a press release noted, the initial certification, completed in September, set a record-tying pace.
The highly coveted certification prompted Veg-Fresh to establish monthly in-person sessions for management to connect with workers, fostering a culture of open communication. According to the release, this initiative led to the implementation of a suggestion box, monthly forklift training, a facility-wide recycling program, and enhanced safety measures, creating a more secure work environment.
“Adherence to EFI principles showcase how these minor adjustments profoundly impact our organizations’ well-being,” added Molly Williams, Veg-Fresh’s Food Safety and Organic Compliance Coordinator. Williams also went on to highlight the positive impact of small changes, such as incorporating stretches to mitigate injuries as well as the value of enabling workers to express their ideas and concerns.
This certification signifies incredible standards for Veg-Fresh Farms in terms of fostering communication, enhancing morale, and prioritizing workplace safety.
