LOS ANGELES, CA - As one of the Southern Californians just 30 minutes from the coast, ships along the horizon waiting for their turn at the port is not a distant enough memory, nor one I’ll forget in the near future. It is an event that has had ports, particularly the Port of Los Angeles, reevaluating and preparing to mitigate and/or prevent a repeat, making it that much more of interest that it has welcomed a new Chief Harbor Engineer—top position overseeing the port’s Engineering Division—in Chris Brown. 

 Brown replaces Dina Aryan-Zahlan, who recently was promoted to Deputy Executive Director of Development. In this role, Brown will lead the planning, development, and design of infrastructure and facilities that, according to news source Daily Breeze, support the diverse operations of one of the U.S.’s busiest seaports, including wharves, terminals, rail, roadways, and public space. 

“Chris has been a pivotal player in many port infrastructure projects over the last two decades,” commented Aryan-Zahlan. “This promotion recognizes all his hard work, dedication and contributions to these critical infrastructure programs.” 

In addition to involvement in award-winning Wilmington Waterfront Park and the current port-wide electrification program, Brown brings an array of experience to the position, including various roles for projects from 2000 to 2015 leading up to his most recent as Assistant Chief Harbor Engineer, responsible for division sections handling structural specifications, architectural and electrical elements of port infrastructure projects. 

Suffice it to say, his latest title heralds much potential in the updates and expansions the port needs to support the supply chain for fresh produce and beyond.
