Amazon Extends Program Designed to Sell More Groceries Online

SEATTLE, WA - No matter what you have to say about Amazon, there's no denying that it's well on its way to becoming a grocery giant. Many wonder: Will the e-tailer ever stop being a grocery force to be reckoned with?

Recent news has cropped up that Amazon extended a promotion that cuts sellers some slack on fees–for any grocery items they’re selling for less than $15, that is. The program itself is seen as a way to get additional grocery items onto Amazon’s website.

In an effort to increase grocery sales online, Amazon is offering a promotion to cut referral fees for grocery items under $15

Normally, Amazon charges a referral fee of 15% on all sales of grocery and gourmet items, but since October 2017, that fee has been cut down to 8% for any item less than $15.

Originally, as reported by Business Insider, the program was slated to end this October, but in an email sent to sellers this month, Amazon announced that it was extending the discount until December 2019.

To some, this move could be seen as Amazon encouraging sellers to list more cheap grocery items, giving customers a wider selection to choose from. Fresh off its latest payment policy—which has ruffled some small business feathers—will this discount win over grocery suppliers?

AndNowUKnow will continue to report the latest in Amazon’s grocery ventures.
