CHILE - Mother Nature is continuing to keep the world on its toes and our eyes on the newswire as reports of earthquakes have sprung up in Chile. Last month, we reported a 6.0 magnitude earthquake that hit the critical ag country. On Monday, two more earthquakes occurred in Chile. So far, no injuries have been reported.

The first earthquake was reported at 2:34 a.m. local time. According to Volcano Discovery, it was a magnitude 4.5 earthquake with a moderately shallow depth of 42.9 km near the village of Los Navegantes, Chile. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but it was probably felt by many people as a light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Los Navegantes located 58 km from the epicenter.

A magnitude 5.2 earthquake was also reported in Chile at 3:18 p.m. local time. The German Research Centre for Geosciences reported the earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter in a separate posting from Volcano Discovery. According to the source, the 5.2 quake should not have caused any significant damage and was probably felt by many people as light vibration as well. Weak shaking might have been felt in Vallenar located 92 km from the epicenter, Copiapó 167 km away, La Serena 182 km away, and Coquimbo 185 km away.
