The grower shared that this year’s Vidalia® sweet onion harvest is complete, and the company has moved to cold storage distribution for June and July.

With grilling season already heightening demand, Shuman Farms is bringing even more reasons to spotlight sweet onions, as the supplier is kicking off its annual promotion with Feeding America. For the fifth year, Shuman Farms will distribute its special Feeding America Vidalia bags throughout the month of June and will donate 100,000 meals to the organization.

“We know that summer can be a challenging time for children and families who rely on school-provided free or reduced meals. Thirty-four million people in the United States—including 9 million children—are food insecure,” explained John. “Our commitment to this promotion extends beyond June. Together with our retail partners, Shuman Farms is making a meaningful impact in the fight against food insecurity.”

The team also recently joined hands with Feed the Boro to distribute a week's worth of meals to 1,000 families in its local Statesboro, Georgia, community, handing out plenty of fresh, nutritious ingredients—including Vidalia onions, of course. Continuing its commitment, the grower also has multiple volunteer shifts scheduled throughout the month at America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia in Savannah.

A staple category backing an impactful cause—and it all ends with more sweet onions in the hands of consumers.
