GERMANY - We are starting off the week with some key updates to the retail sector, as one grocer is implementing its latest growth strategy. Lidl is building out its growing retail footprint, revealing that it is currently in the early phases of construction for its new store in the South Boulevard area of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Will Harwood, Director of Communications and Public Relations, Lidl US“Being our newest prototype, the store will incorporate all of our latest optimizations to make the shopping experience even simpler and more convenient for customers,” said Will Harwood, Director of Communications and Public Relations, to Charlotte Business Journal.

The store is set to open in the middle of 2023 and stands at a total of 20,000 square feet.

The retailer was first linked to the South Boulevard location in 2015, according to the source, when property records show that the grocer paid $4.9 million for the site. Construction and outfitting of the new prototype are expected to cost roughly $7 million, including advancements such as new fixtures, lighting, and layout.

Lidl first entered the Charlotte region in September 2017 and has since expanded its footprint to 10 stores in the area.

“We are looking forward to serving the community with this store and are confident it will be an excellent addition to the area,” Harwood added.

Marking its expansion into the United States back in 2015, the grocer now operates more than 150 stores across nine East Coast states, and 11,550 stores globally.
