Markon Cooperative Hosts Eighth Annual Chef Summit and Taste of Markon Event; Andy Hamilton Comments
SALINAS, CA - What’s better than a one-of-a-kind dining experience? A delicious meal that gives back to the community. That is what Markon Cooperative is offering as it prepares to host its annual The Taste of Markon event at the conclusion of the Markon Chef Summit on Friday, September 22, in support of Salinas, California's, Rancho Cielo.
“The Chef Summit, including the Taste of Markon fundraiser dinner, is one of our most important events. Chefs from across the U.S. and Canada work closely with the school’s culinary students to create an incredible produce-focused menu, giving them invaluable, real-life working experience,” said Andy Hamilton, Markon’s Chief Executive Officer. “Year after year, this event has grown, bringing together our local Monterey County community for a joyous meal—all while educating chefs and students on the power of produce at the center of the plate.”
The Taste of Markon event brings together Markon’s five member companies and their customer chefs for a special dining experience that benefits Rancho Cielo’s Drummond Culinary Academy, a release stated. The academy is a non-profit that serves Monterey County’s at-risk youth through culinary mentoring.
This event comes at the end of the Markon Chef Summit that takes place over the days prior. It joins 18 Markon member chefs and their operator customers, giving them the opportunity to attend field tours, participate in roundtable discussions about the industry and plant-based meal trends, connect with suppliers and growers on new products, and work together to create plant-powered dishes while mentoring young culinary students.
Friday’s strolling dinner will include passed hors d’oeuvres, seven delicious course stations, live music, and the region’s finest wines. This year Markon will also include a silent auction for diners to bid on in hopes of exceeding last year’s total of over $15,000 raised for the school’s scholarship fund, kitchen equipment, and more.
