National Mango Board Celebrates National Mango Month; Manuel Michel Comments
ORLANDO, FL - Mangos are one of the quintessential fruits most consumers associate with summer. The juicy, flavorful fruit is so popular, it even has an entire month dedicated to it. As June is National Mango Month, the National Mango Board (NMB) is highlighting that it’s always mango season. From social media campaigns and new recipes to seasonal menu ideas and promotions, the NMB is showcasing how to best utilize the tropical star this summer to bring shoppers in all season long.
“Mango has popped up in different applications from soft drinks to hard seltzers to new menu offerings, so National Mango Month comes at the perfect time to highlight where it all starts, fresh whole mango,” said Executive Director Manuel Michel. “It’s encouraging to see mango consumption per capita steadily increase over the years from 1.88 pounds per person in 2005 to 3.63 pounds per person in 2020, a 93 percent increase.”
For those in the States, Mother Nature has already graced us with her warming rays as we cross the unofficial start of summer. As the weather heats up, consumers will be looking to incorporate mango in their summer meals and snacks for a refreshing and nourishing twist. To help spark some recipe inspiration, the NMB developed several summer-focused food and drink recipes.
According to the release, the Saucy Summer campaign aims to showcase how versatile mangos are when it comes to sauces and dips. From a Mango Chili Mustard Sauce to Grilled Mango BBQ Sauce to Roasted Mango Salsa, shoppers will be inspired from now to Labor Day and beyond to incorporate fresh and healthy products into their summer cooking.
To really kick things up a notch, NMB is showcasing several sippers to further entice your shoppers to reach for the tropical station. The traditional Mexican Mangonada’s bold flavors bring forth a sweet, tangy, and delicious drink—and this trade news writer has been seeing several variations of the mangonada in various foodservice operations. Kick up the heat with the Mango Muchacho Margarita or bring a new idea to the brunch table with Mango Moroccan Mimosa. The kids aren’t left out of the mango fun either, with the colorful Mango Lava Slushie.
Content from the Mango Tribe, the NMB’s network of influencers, also aims to help inspire new and unique ways to use mangos. The 2021 edition of the Mango Tribe features several content creators who have unique, authentic ties to mango. From growing up with mango trees to feeding it to their young families, the Mango Tribe’s mango roots run deep.
