Produce Industry Celebrates April Fool's Day

THE PRODUCESPHERE - I must admit, I fall victim to our industry’s April Fool’s Day pranks every single year. This time around, it was only once my excitement was sparked by the potential of a fun little toy inside every avocado that I realized April 1 had arrived once again. As jokes fill our social media feeds in the form of unique product launches, foodservice concepts, and more, it’s easy to be inspired by the creativity that is so inherent to produce marketing.

You don’t have to be a fool to love these hilarious April Fool’s Day strategies! Discover just a few of the produce pranks that caught our attention this year…

Westfalia Fruit

Sure, call me gullible—but I can’t lie when I say that for a brief moment, I was really looking forward to finding this cute little donut inside my next avocado purchase. A girl can dream, right? Either way, the sight of this beautifully green avocado has me adding extra to this week’s shopping list.

Taylor Farms

For when you don’t have time to indulge in one of the brand’s convenient and delicious salad kits, I present to you a flavorful new beauty staple. Sweet Kale, Dill Pickle, and Mexican Street Corn lipglosses are for today’s die-hard salad kit lovers. How can I get a few of these in my purse?

Dole Food Company

This post stopped me in my tracks, and I may spend the rest of my life wishing this was real. I can imagine a fresh slice of this Coco-Pine is almost as good as a juicy bite of super sweet Tropical Gold® pineapple.

The Little Potato Co.

The perfect place to stop when you need a potato pick-me-up. Already a champion of convenience and meeting shopper demand, The Little Potato Co. knows exactly what consumers want: delicious potatoes, quick and easy.

Driscoll’s

Berries delivered right to your door? Now that’s a commitment to freshness! While first-class berry delivery via drone isn’t a reality (yet), this April Fool’s Day post is still drawing consumers to the fresh, flavorful promise of the berry category.

Sumo Citrus

Sumo Citrus became Nano Citrus in this miniature take on April Fool’s. Just the size of your fingernail, this tiny citrus prank plays into consumers’ interest for on-the-go snacking options. Did I fall for it? Possibly…

Fresh Express

Salad Ice Cream, anyone? Fresh Express' April Fool's prank combines the best of both worlds. Healthy and indulgent, I'd spring for a salad ice cream cone any day!
