CALIFORNIA - A steady cooling trend is currently making its way across the northern parts of San Joaquin Valley, along with the potential for light rain storms. A recent Weather Mission report showed the cooling trend picking up on Wednesday, with increasing onshore flow ahead of the tail end of a frontal system sweeping the north valley on Thursday.

As a result, a chance of light rain is forecasted for Fresno northward on Thursday afternoon, along with more light rain following on Friday afternoon. Additional light showers are expected in the north valley through Sunday evening as a fast-moving low-pressure area makes landfall that morning.

High temps in the mid-70s to low-80s are expected in most fields on Wednesday, according to the source, with temperatures cooling to low-mid-60s by Friday. Morning lows will cool from the mid-50s to low-60s on Wednesday to mid-upper-40s come Saturday morning.

Looking ahead to next month, the report also noted that the first week of April should see continued below-normal temps, but confidence on additional rainfall is low. Between now and the next warming period—which could begin Monday, April 7—Northern California could see another atmospheric river pattern in the second half of the week. However, the latest predictions forecast the system to fall north of the San Joaquin Valley.
