Stop & Shop and King Kullen Halt Acquisition Agreement
ZAANDAM, THE NETHERLANDS - In January of 2019, Stop & Shop announced its plans to acquire King Kullen’s 32-store operation and five Wild by Nature stores. Now, those plans have been terminated, as Ahold Delhaize, Stop & Shop’s parent, noted in a recent statement.
“Both companies have put forth an incredible amount of effort to work through unanticipated challenges that have arisen, and we regret that we’re not able to move forward,” remarked Stop & Shop President Gordon Reid. “King Kullen has a strong legacy on the island, and we wish it continued success. Stop & Shop remains committed to the Long Island community, to serving our customers in the market well, and to investing in our associates and our stores in Nassau and Suffolk counties.”
At the time the acquisition was announced, King Kullen operated 32 stores in the New York market of Long Island. It also operates five Wild by Nature organic grocery stores.
Stop & Shop too operates in Long Island, with nearly 50 stores in operation.
