CHICAGO, IL - On the heels of this year’s International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) Global Produce & Floral Show, Hazel Technologies has announced the successful registration of its flagship Hazel 100 solution in Peru. This expansion comes at a critical time as the industry has seen increased demand for Peruvian table grapes in the United States following Hurricane Hilary.

Tommy Caruana, Director of Business Development – Retail, Hazel Technologies“The ease of use and the impressive results of Hazel 100 create a win-win situation for both retailers and customers, making it a must-have for postharvest crop management strategies. For retailers, this translates into increased sales and customer satisfaction,” Tommy Caruana, Director of Business Development for Retail at Hazel Technologies, described. “With Hazel 100, customers are more likely to choose and purchase produce, confident that it will stay fresh for an extended period at home.”

Peru’s export of table grapes has consistently trended upward since 2017, a release stated. From 2022 to 2023, the country exported over 70 million 8.2 kg boxes, a 10 percent increase compared to the previous year. Building on this growth, Hazel’s solution enhances South American table grapes’ quality and shelf-life through a unique and straightforward application method.

Hazel 100 is a small sachet containing the active ingredient 1-MCP, designed for optimal time-release treatment of postharvest crops. It simplifies the process with a one-step application: placing the sachet directly into the produce case. Once Hazel 100 is implemented, it slowly releases 1-MCP and delays stem browning by mitigating senescence due to exposure to ethylene, resulting in greener stem tissue.

The 1-MCP active ingredient is the key to providing retailers with a better-quality product, creating more opportunities to grow their business.

Aline Perales, Commercial Business Development Manager, Hazel Technologies“Hazel 100 has been shown to help growers have more marketable fruit. Hazel 100 sachets can be a good tool, especially to use on premium-quality grapes to have better arrivals and thus premium returns,” Aline Perales, Commercial Business Development Manager, said.

The solutions innovator has a dedicated team in Peru, collaborating closely with local growers. With the successful completion of the registration process for Hazel 100, Hazel Tech will continue to expand its operations globally.
