Pacific International Marketing's Stacey Claassen Discusses High Cauliflower Market and Elevated Pricing
SALINAS, CA - Strong demand is hitting the cauliflower market as holiday recipes call on the beloved category. As retailers look to optimize a currently high market for the veg, I recently tapped Pacific International Marketing’s Commodity Manager Stacey Claassen, who noted light supplies and elevated pricing across the industry.
“Currently, we are sitting in a very high market for cauliflower. Even when we saw a pricing dip, it stayed well above what I would call a normal cauliflower market,” Stacey shared with me. “I foresee the market staying at this very elevated level for another week or so and beginning to steady as supplies increase.”
Cauliflower volume has been impacted by quality challenges posed by extreme heat, rain, and now colder-than-normal temperatures.
Giving the supplier an additional region to draw supply from, Pacific International Marketing’s Yuma, Arizona, season will kick off in early December. The grower will also continue with its year-round supply out of Santa Maria, California.
As more supply makes its way to the market, retailers can continue to maintain the high demand in the cauliflower category through the holidays and beyond.
“The cauliflower market is still seeing strong demand with the holiday interest in stores. Demand has also been driven up as retail customers try to catch up from recent shortages,” Stacey points out.
ANUK will continue to keep a close watch on key produce categories as grocers aim to maximize sales this holiday season, so stay tuned!
