Sunkist Growers' Cassie Howard Discusses New Era of Cara Cara
VALENCIA, CA - We are entering a new era—a new era of Cara Caras, that is. Sunkist Growers has announced the makeover of the popular variety, catching consumers’ eyes and boosting register rings in the process.
“…we're really excited about a new era of Cara Caras. This year, we revamped all of our packaging and our merchandising with the new tagline, 'The Pink Orange,' and everything is pink,” says Cassie Howard, Senior Director of Category Management and Marketing. “This variety continues to grow, and we're seeing more consumers educated about the variety and really starting to engage with it, and we want to highlight what makes it unique, which is its pink interior.”
All of Sunkist’s new pink packaging focuses on educating shoppers to get them excited about the unique variety. Currently, the cooperative offers the variety in a number of formats, with 3 lb bags being the top seller. Volume for Cara Caras has risen 20 percent in the last year alone.
“Our new packaging also highlights the flavor profile, which is really sweet, and we know that this variety with sampling and merchandising is a great way to get it in front of shoppers and get them into the category,” adds Cassie.
