UP Vertical Farms' Bahram Rashti Talks Leafy Greens Innovation
BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA - Here at AndNowUKnow, we love learning about the ins and outs of fresh produce suppliers’ operations, especially as they prepare for new phases of growth. Bolstered by a partnership with Oppy, UP Vertical Farms has its sights set on leafy greens innovation, and Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder Bahram Rashti recently shared some exciting details with us.
“We design, build, and operate controlled environment agriculture facilities,” Bahram shared with us. “What we do is focus on indoor vertical farming of baby leafy greens—the full spectrum of them. What makes us different is we actually do very high-density yields, and as a result, we become very sustainable.”
Utilizing its innovative operational advantages, UP Vertical Farms is able to use 99 percent less agricultural land and freshwater, maintaining a strong and sustainable production model in its plant factories, which are designed to feed one to multiple states or provinces at a time.
“We’ve actually perfected the ecosystem to provide extremely long-lasting products,” Bahram continued. “That’s actually five to six weeks of shelf-life, which is incredible in our industry. The other thing that we have that’s very interesting for us is we’ve fully automated the whole ecosystem.”
With an automated and integrated seeding line, harvesting line, and packaging, the supplier is able to produce very clean, ready-to-eat leafy greens that are indoor-grown and free of pesticides and herbicides.
