IRVINE, CA - Good morning, AndNowUKnow readers!

Today, I am bringing you some of the category and weather news from around the industry. Check back twice weekly to see where the rain is falling, the sun is shining, and everything in between.

ONE LAST STORM TO HIT CALIFORNIA

There is finally light at the end of the tunnel for California growers. After what seems like an endless parade of storms this winter/spring, it appears things will finally turn the corner next week (but only after one last storm this weekend).

The last forecasted storm will come through this Sunday, dropping rain in all major growing regions across the state. Some locations may see up to .50”. Along with the rain will come more cold temperatures. The entire state (except for the desert regions) will see maximum temperatures only in the mid-60°s on Sunday while some minimum temperatures will dip into the 40°s. For a frame of reference, maximum temperatures in the 60°s for Bakersfield and Fresno is 25° below normal for this time of year.

Please take your precautions because volumes will be down next week with this last storm coming through.

Starting Wednesday of next week, temperatures will finally begin to warm with all growing regions in the SJ Valley reaching into the mid-80°s and along the coast into the low 70°s. There is no rain forecasted past Sunday.

RAIN COMING TO HOOD RIVER, OREGON

Daily rain is hitting the Hood River area of Oregon right now. Yesterday through Monday will see light showers throughout the area. Today will see cool temperatures with a high of only 57° and a low of 43°. Next week the highs will be into the 70°s. Cherries will be starting out of this region shortly.

HEAT WAVE COMING TO THE DESERT SOUTHWEST

Temperatures over the weekend in this region will dip into the low 80°s and upper 70°s due to the last storm coming through CA but starting Wednesday, May 29 temperatures will finally get back around the century mark where they will remain until at least Saturday, June 1.

Look for production to pick up next week out of the desert regions of CA and AZ. We are talking about melons, bells, eggplants, tomatoes, etc.

WARM TEMPERATURES CONTINUE IN GEORGIA AND SOUTH CAROLINA

Unseasonably warm temperatures continue in the region with highs up around 100°. This is approximately 15° above normal for this time of year. Look for volumes on products out of this region to increase. We are talking about bell peppers, peaches, tomatoes, corn, etc..

DAILY RAINS IN MICHIGAN

Starting today the growing regions of Michigan will see daily thunderstorms with rain totals anywhere from .20 - .35” daily. This rain will last at least through next Friday. Temperatures will continue on the warm side with highs in the mid 70°s and lows in the low 60°s.

NEW JERSEY HEAT WAVE

This Sunday will see a high temperature of 90° in New Jersery, about 18° normal for this time of year. High temperatures next week will continue in the mid- to upper-80°s. Weather is perfect and maybe we will see an early start to the season from this part of the world. There is a slight chance of a shower for Monday but nothing that growers should be worried about.
