VANCOUVER, BC - Can a produce company really help change the world? If you ask Fortune Magazine, they might just tell you Village Farms is already well on its way. In Fortune Magazine’s September Issue on the 50 Companies Who Are Changing the World, the publication delved deep into what makes the company such a positive impact on the world around it. The article features an interview with Co-Founder, President, and CEO of Village Farms, Michael A. DeGiglio.

“Being included in Fortune’s issue on companies that are changing the world really speaks to what Village Farms has represented for the last 28 years,” Doug Kling, Village Farms’ Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer tells me. “We have been green since before it became a trend. We walk the talk and stay true to our mission, which allows us to give a better product to our consumers.”

Doug tells me that when the publication heard about Village Farms’ efforts in social responsibility, conservation, and community involvement, they were thrilled to learn more from DeGiglio. In the article, DeGiglio discusses topics such as the company’s efforts to recycle and purify its freshwater, its hydroponic and greenhouse growing methods, and humane labor practices.

“Consumers want to know what their products represent—treating people with dignity, never having anything but the best when it comes to safety, never accepting second rate metrics,” Doug adds as we discuss what the drew nationally acclaimed publication to the company. “When Village Farms puts our name on anything, it has to be premium quality, it has to be representative of what we are, and it has to be good for our industry and consumers.”
