TEHACHAPI, CA - If you haven’t noticed, California is hot right now, and the only reprieve we can think of is fresh fruits and vegetables. Luckily, the beginning of summer also marks the start of Cal-Organic Farms produce stand in Tehachapi, providing fresh from the farm organic fruits and vegetables to Central California residents and visitors alike.

“Residents tell us they wait all year for the stand to open,” shared Jeff Huckaby, President of Grimmway Farms, the parent company of Cal-Organic. “This marks the tenth consecutive year we’ve operated the stand on Bear Valley Road, which beckons customers with its simple, bold, and historic ‘Organic Produce’ stenciled signage.”  

At first, the Cal-Organic stand was only offering visitors Tehachapi-grown produce items, but Huckaby noted that the program has grown much bigger due to a great response. “Demand is now so great we send an additional delivery each Friday night, so that on Saturday customers can have their pick of the organics we’re harvesting in Bakersfield, Lamont, and Arvin, as well.” 

According to a press release, Cal-Organic Farms first opened its Tehachapi produce stand in 2007 to answer the demand from local residents looking to purchase fresh, organic produce. Today, the stand offers a wide variety of farm fresh options, including arugula, beets, bok choy, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, chard, cilantro, collard greens, daikon, dandelion, fennel, green onions, kale, leeks, lettuce (butter, leaf, iceberg, romaine), mustard greens, parsley, and radishes. 

Open every Saturday, June 24 through September 2 from the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the stand is located at 23968 Bear Valley Road in Tehachapi. Cash and checks are accepted, but no credit or debit cards.
