United States Food and Drug Administration Pushes Fresh Food for National Nutrition Month®

SILVER SPRING, MD - Yesterday marked the beginning of National Nutrition Month®, and the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is utilizing all 31 days to help consumers make more informed choices about what they eat.

As the organization noted in a recent press release, the White House National Strategy on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health supports the creation of tailored nutrition education for different communities, and FDA has developed a portfolio of nutrition resources for a variety of audiences, including educators, dietitians, youth and youth educators, physicians and healthcare professionals, and older adults.

With March serving as National Nutrition Month®, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is utilizing all 31 days to help consumers make more informed choices about what they eat

Through its resources—which include videos, downloadable fact sheets, an interactive online tool and quiz, and a nutrition curriculum—consumers can learn how to utilize the Nutrition Facts label as a tool for maintaining healthy dietary practices by visiting FDA's "The New Nutrition Facts Label: What's in it for you?" website.

Last fall, the FDA moved to update its requirements around what foods can use the word "healthy" on their packaging, with proposed limitations that would leave out high-sugar, low-fat products that currently are allowed to use the healthy label today, CBS News reported.

As the FDA offers vital nutrition education to help steer consumers on the right path, we can only bet that trail will lead them to the beloved produce department.
