Walmart Adds Square, Inc. CFO Sarah Friar to Its Board of Directors



BENTONVILLE, AR – Walmart has appointed a new member to its Board of Trustees, bringing tech and financial savvy from Square, Inc. The company has announced Sarah Friar, Chief Financial Office for Square, will assume the role of Independent Director effective immediately.

Friar joins Walmart as the twelfth member of the company’s board and will also serve as a member of Walmart’s Audit Committee and Strategic Planning and Finance Committee.

Friar has served as CFO of Square—a provider of commerce tools that help businesses start, run, and grow from payments to point-of-sale to financing—since July of 2012. She previously served as the SVP of Finance & Strategy for Salesforce, and prior to that, served in various capacities with Goldman Sachs.

In addition to Walmart, Friar currently serves as a member of the board of directors of computer software company Slack, and at New Relic, Inc., a leading digital intelligence company, where she serves on the Audit Committee. Friar holds a MEng in Metallurgy, Economics, and Management from the University of Oxford and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
