Western Iceberg and Romaine Lettuce Fairing Well in Quality With a Lower Market According to USDA Reports
CALIFORNIA - Rather than a gap amid this transitional point of the veg season, a market overlap is creating a surge in the market for much in the West.
According to USDA reports mid-week, Iceberg lettuce market is on the lower end, with 24s cartons from Arizona–California priced at 19.00-19.50 film lined; 16.50-17.50 24s film wrapped.
Romaine is also reported on the low side of the market, with 12 3-count pack cartons out of the same region at 17.00-18.00, with one label high as 28.00 cartons. 24s came in at 18.00-18.50 film lined, with 48s hearts at 28.00-30.00.

Fair appearance has quality up for product, with conditions progressing slowly in terms of demand as weather and economics see consumers tightening their spend at the store. Western weather continues to fluctuate, and Easter coming late in April gives more runway for preparation.
As the transition from the desert to the valley gets underway, AndNowUKnow will continue to monitor impactful markets across the fresh department, so stay tuned.
