ALDI Secures Three Sites as Big Lots Store Reopenings Roll Out
UNITED STATES - As hundreds of locations return to operation, the ongoing restructuring of a major discount retailer has led to new ownership of select sites, according to USA Today. ALDI has acquired three former Big Lots properties, joining a list of buyers reshaping the retail landscape following last year's Chapter 11 filing.
Bankruptcy proceedings from September 2024 led to the sale of over 460 leases, which were transferred to Boston-based Gordon Brothers Retail Partners and then offered to buyers across the country. ALDI’s new sites are in Denham Springs, Louisiana; Taylor, Michigan; and Nacogdoches, Texas.

Other retailers seizing the opportunity include Variety Wholesalers, now holding 219 locations and two distribution centers, and Ocean State Job Lot, which picked up 15 stores in the Northeast. Tractor Supply, Ollie’s, and Burlington also expanded with double-digit site acquisitions.
