Amazon Fresh Expands Internationally With New London Store
LONDON, ENGLAND - Taking the old infomercial catchphrase, “But wait, there’s more!’ to new levels, Amazon is once again on the move, making crucial developments in the grocery sector. After Jeff Bezos announced that he would be stepping down to focus on the retailer’s grocery growth, the company has announced the opening of its first Amazon Fresh location outside of the U.S. in London on March 4.
The 2,500-square-foot store will be located in the Ealing area of London, according to a report from GeekWire. The brick-and-mortar location will use the company’s innovative “Just Walk Out” technology that has only been featured in Amazon Go stores in the past in order to eliminate checkout lines.
Along with the grand opening, Amazon is also announcing the launch of its new private food brand called “by Amazon” that will be available in the U.K. The label offers hot food and on-the-go items that will be sold only at the Fresh location.
Amazon currently has 26 Amazon Go stores across the U.S. in cities such as Seattle, New York, Chicago, and San Francisco, as well as two Go Grocery locations in Seattle and Redmond, Washington. The first Amazon Fresh store opened in August of 2020 in Woodland Hills, California.
