Divine Flavor Receives SHARP Certification
NOGALES, AZ - 2020 undoubtedly brought new lessons and new values to the forefront, with health and safety reigning top of the list for many. As a result of prioritizing the health of its associates, Divine Flavor recently announced that its Nogales distribution center has received its certification for the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP).
“There is nothing more important than the health and safety of our employees,” said Alan Aguirre, President and CEO. “Pursuing the SHARP certification has been a company goal for many years, and we’re very proud of our team to become the first produce distributor in the state of Arizona to achieve this.”
SHARP is a program dedicated to recognizing companies for health and safety management systems, limiting injuries in the workplace, and identifying potential hazards, offered through Arizona’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health (ADOSH). The grower and shipper has been pursuing this certification for several years now, conducting its audit in November of 2020, according to the press release. Divine Flavor is the 12th SHARP site in Arizona and the first produce company in the state to receive the certification, joining a large network of 1,300 sites in the nation.
Having already developed SHARP implemented practices, the Divine Flavor team was able to smoothly adjust to the new store policies sparked by the pandemic with the help of its health and safety plan, General Manager Jose Antonio Martinez noted in the release.
“SHARP teaches companies to look at potential hazards and evaluate and create protocols to protect your employees,” said Martinez. “Our managers and employees have worked very hard to get to this point, and moving forward, we will have a great opportunity to maintain this achievement and think safety first.”
