International Fresh Produce Association and Western Growers Remember Dianne Feinstein; Dave Puglia Comments
WASHINGTON, DC - It was recently announced that United States Senator Dianne Feinstein of California has passed away at the age of 90. She was elected to the Senate in 1992, breaking gender barriers and playing a key role in the country’s politics and legislation.
Following the announcement of Senator Feinstein’s passing, several industry organizations released statements honoring the political leader and her contributions.
“Senator Feinstein’s public service to California will be remembered fondly by people from every region of the state, from urban to rural. For those striving to protect and strengthen California’s farms and the communities connected to agriculture, Senator Feinstein was our champion. She leaned into seemingly intractable issues, especially water supply and immigration, to bring diverse interests together,” said Dave Puglia, President and Chief Executive Officer of Western Growers. “No one ever doubted her mastery of the details or her drive to reach pragmatic compromises that would break through the ideological logjams that are too common in our politics today. Senator Feinstein’s dedication to sound public policy will continue to serve the people of California agriculture for many years to come. The members and staff of Western Growers send our condolences to her family, friends, and staff. She will be deeply missed.”
The International Fresh Produce Association also shared its thoughts on the long-standing government figure and her impacts.
“The International Fresh Produce Association extends its condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Senator Dianne Feinstein who passed yesterday,” a statement from the association read. “The Senator, who was known for collaboration across the aisle, was a longtime and tireless champion of fresh fruits and vegetables in public policy, as well as a powerful and respected advocate of other agricultural issues affecting not only her home state but of the specialty crop industry as a whole. Senator Feinstein spearheaded efforts to pass agriculture immigration reform and played an integral in the passage of the last comprehensive immigration bill to pass the Senate. IFPA joins the many who are grateful for the Senator’s leadership and advocacy for our industry and the agricultural community.”
