GREENSBORO, NC - The future is foodservice. At least, that is the case for The Fresh Market as it continues to expand its focus on its new in-store “kitchens.” Aiming to support that area of its operations, the retailer appointed Nathan Baldwin as Vice President of Merchandising Food Service, who will report directly to Dan Portnoy, Chief Merchandising Officer.

Baldwin’s responsibilities will now include overseeing a team and leading all aspects of The Fresh Market’s new “kitchens” inclusive of design, workflow, operations, product selection, merchandising, and profit and loss accountability. His extensive background in the restaurant industry means he is well-equipped with the knowledge that will take The Fresh Market’s foodservice operations to the next level.

The new VP began his career working for Chili’s Grill & Bar, where he spent more than 20 years. Starting out as a Restaurant Manager, he worked his way up to various roles in the company’s corporate office, including Senior Director of Culinary Operations, VP of Operation Services, and VP of Strategic Growth and Finance. Baldwin most recently served as VP of Restaurant Services, where he designed, simplified, and executed operational strategy and innovation to support more than 1,350 restaurants.

A press release added that Baldwin earned his BBA in Restaurant and Hotel Management from the Anderson School of Management at The University of New Mexico.

“Nathan brings a wealth of experience in the restaurant industry to The Fresh Market, which will be key in helping us grow our store concept moving forward,” said Portnoy of the recently appointed VP who will be working under him. “We look forward [to] his contributions in the years to come.”
