REIDSVILLE, GA - Sweet onions and Southern Exposure—it’s a match made in heaven. Shuman Farms is hitting the anticipated trade show hosted by the Southeast Produce Council with a top-tier portfolio and a slew of company updates to share. In true AndNowUKnow fashion, I got in touch with John Shuman, President and Chief Executive Officer, to get a sneak peek of the provider’s showcase.

“On Thursday, we will be co-hosting the Southern Flavors Cocktail Reception with other Georgia Grown growers, and on Friday, we’ll be hosting our annual Healthy Family Project reception to thank our 2023 retailer partners and sponsors for a successful year,” John explains, giving me a preview of what to expect at this year’s event, which kicks off today.

Shuman Farms will be exhibiting at Southern Exposure with team members from sales, marketing, and operations in attendance. Event-goers will also have a chance to meet with the company’s Healthy Family Project (HFP) team as well.

As the team takes to this year’s show, Shuman Farms will be expanding upon its organization’s four foundational pillars.

As John shares, recent facility upgrades have also bolstered Shuman Farms’ operations.

“We are currently wrapping up an extensive renovation of our packing facility in Cobbtown, Georgia. Upgrades and changes to our repack room, including the installation of a new grader, will increase productivity and efficiency, which will positively impact our ability to service our customers,” John adds.

Renovations are expected to be complete over the next few weeks, ahead of the Vidalia® season, which begins in April. Currently, Shuman Farms is shipping premium sweet onions from Peru. Quality continues to be good, and the supplier expects consistent, promotable supply through March.
