LOS ANGELES, CA - Kroger subsidiary Ralphs has just completed the largest solar energy project to date for the Kroger Companies as a whole. This project included the installation of a photovoltaic solar power array at Ralphs’ automated distribution center in Paramount, California.

"Ralphs is constantly exploring energy efficient technologies and renewable energy options that are respectful to our environment and the communities we serve," said Mike Murphy, President of Ralphs. "These sustainability investments demonstrate to our customers and other valued stakeholders our commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen."

The project, completed in partnership with Affordable Solar, places more than 7,000 solar panels on the 555,000-square-foot distribution center, which provides products to 190 Ralphs Stores and 95 Food 4 Less stores across Southern California. According to a press release, the new installation has a 2 MW AC capacity and will generate 4.28 million kWh of clean power for the facility each year, representing approximately 50 percent of the facility's total electricity needs.

This is Kroger’s third solar installation at one of its supply chain facilities. Kroger has also completed installations at the Fred Meyer distribution center in Clackamas, Oregon, and the Smith’s Food and Drug distribution center in Layton, Utah, as well as a few of its stores. These installations produced more than 14.59 million kWh of renewable power in 2018, a great stride for sustainability and renewable energy for our industry.
