CALIFORNIA - It’s been a wet transition from 2023 into 2024 for the Golden State, which, despite experiencing different climates in each part, is seeing widespread precipitation throughout.

Here in AndNowUKnow’s home of Sacramento, California, a storm system is moving through with expectations of heavy rain in the area and snow in the Sierra mountains through the night, adding to the highly watched snowpack. It has been declared a First Alert Action Day, according to CBS Sacramento, while Southern California has seen similar conditions through this morning. A winter weather advisory was issued today until 10 a.m. Thursday for the San Gabriel Mountains and Highway 14 corridor north of Los Angeles, according to NBC Los Angeles. 

Travel on the 5 Freeway through the Tejon Pass in northern Los Angeles County could be affected by snow, ice, and winds.

The advisory covers a spread of communities, not typically ag areas but hubs and transport including the Angeles Crest Highway extending to the San Bernardino and Riverside county mountains. The region is expecting snow above 4,000 feet in the mountains, with 3 to 6 inches possible in most areas, and up to 8 inches in higher elevations.
