Fyffes Gains Recognition for Social Responsibility; Sheila McCann-Morrison and Genivaldo Pereira Discuss
HONDURAS - At AndNowUKnow, we love to see industry aces gaining their well-deserved recognition. Fyffes is celebrating a recent milestone, as the Honduran Foundation for Socially Responsible Business (FUNDAHRSE) recently honored the supplier’s melon business Sol Group with the coveted FUNDAHRSE Socially Responsible Company Seal for the years 2022–2023.
“To receive the FUNDAHRSE Seal is a true honor and reflects the scale of the transformation of our winter melon business,” commented Sheila McCann-Morrison, Chief Supply Officer, Fyffes. “The new leadership team in Honduras have leveraged their skills and expertise to ensure that our melon business promotes wellbeing not only for our customers but the local communities and, most important of all, our employees.”
This distinct recognition marks the provider’s achievement after obtaining an average of 96 percent in seven thematic indicators for corporate social responsibility. FUNDAHRSE conducted an audit of Fyffes melon farm Suragroh, in Choluteca, southern Honduras, to evaluate compliance with its INDICARSE tool, which is ratified by the ISO 26000 standard for social responsibility, a press release explained.
The company’s results in the seven thematic indicators were as follows:
- Governance: 97 percent
- Human Rights: 100 percent
- Labor Practices: 91 percent
- Environment: 92 percent
- Fair Operating Practices: 97 percent
- Consumer Affairs: 100 percent
- Community Participation: 99 percent
“I was truly delighted to receive this award on behalf of Fyffes and our melon business. This award is an acknowledgment of the tremendous effort of our Honduran workforce, who have gone above and beyond to help transform our business,” noted Genivaldo Pereira, General Manager of Sol Group. “I wish to thank them for their efforts in helping Fyffes achieve its vision of becoming one of the most sustainable and ethical companies in Honduras.”
FUNDAHRSE is a non-profit organization with the primary objective to promote sustainability and corporate social responsibility in Honduras. The FUNDAHRSE Seal is granted for the first time for a period of two years, during which the company must carry out a follow-up evaluation, and from the third year onwards, the Seal is valid for one year.
We here at ANUK congratulate Fyffes and Sol Group on this recent achievement and the success of its melon business!
