Pineapple Supply to Remain Tight Through Mid-April
UNITED STATES & COSTA RICA - As current supply from Costa Rica contributes to a steady pineapple market, retailers can start looking ahead to peak volumes next month. Among the category, large crownless pineapples are in particularly high demand.
Costa Rica is currently the main source of pineapples in the United States market, according to PRO*ACT’s The Source, released on March 26. Rain in the region is expected to lower yields, impacting availability and pricing in the short term. Supply is expected to remain tight until mid-April, with peak volumes ramping up beginning in May. Quality across the category is currently looking good.

This has led to steady pricing in the pineapple sector. USDA reports for the New York Terminal Market listed the following for Costa Rica Golden Ripe pineapples (cartons, 1 layer):
- 5s: 16-28 (mostly 26)
- 6s: 16-34
- 7s: 18-28
- 8s: 18-26
USDA’s report for the Boston Terminal Market shows a general price range of 20-22, with 24 on the higher end.
