GLENNVILLE, GA - Eight years of careful planning and hard work is paying off for G&R Farms, as the Vidalia® onion grower has announced the upgrade and installation of a new, high-tech grading and packing line. The massive undertaking is anticipated to be in full operation by March 2023.

G&R Farms’ new grading equipment is more precise, enabling the company to maximize packing efficiency and product quality at higher speeds—almost 80 percent faster than existing equipment. According to a release, these upgrades will optimize sizing accuracy and provide delicate processing, minimizing mechanical damage to each onion.

Due to the accuracy of the sizer, greater uniformity can also be found in pack sizes, allowing the supplier to ship exact customer specs noted in their preferences.

“Over the years, we have seen the onion industry suffer losses from inconsistent size and quality issues not caught on the sorting and packing lines. Our new line challenges nearly every obstacle with boosted accuracy and increased speed in packing,” stated Fabian Murillo, Shipping Manager/Inventory Control Supervisor. “This assurance will allow us to process orders on demand, ensuring we’re providing the freshest, most reliable products.”
