Hazel Technologies® Announces Fig Partnership With Specialty Crop Company
CHICAGO, IL - Hazel Technologies® is establishing its presence in the fig category with the announcement of another new partnership. The solutions provider recently announced it has been tapped by Specialty Crop Company to extend the shelf-life of the grower’s fresh figs, boost sales, and help combat food waste.
“At Hazel Tech, we see figs as a key category to make a global impact,” explained Aidan Mouat, CEO of Hazel Technologies. “The demand shift from dried to fresh, expanding distribution capabilities, and an innovative strategy amongst Specialty Crop and other growers toward trialing new technologies all bring us one step closer to achieving our company’s mission to provide holistic supply chain solutions for the fresh food industry.”
Specialty Crop Company estimates the fresh fig market will grow by 60 percent over the next five years thanks to the quality advancements that extend shelf-life for long-distance transit, a press release explained.
One persistent challenge imposed on the long-distance shipping of fresh figs is its high level of perishability, which Hazel Tech will extend through the use of its technology.
“We are excited to incorporate Hazel Technologies’ products into our supply chain to protect our diverse and delicate fig varieties,” said Erik Herman, Farming and Sales, Specialty Crop Company. “Hazel Tech sachets are easy-to-use and will allow us to reach our customers with higher quality fruit across both global and domestic markets.”
Specialty Crop Company farms over 4,000 acres of figs, offering almost every variety on the market ranging from novelty Tiger figs to category leaders like Black Mission figs.
