Industry Mourns Passing of Meijer Produce Leader Robert Summers

UNITED STATES - Robert Summers, a retired but beloved Director of Produce for Meijer, sadly passed away last week. His legacy in the fresh produce and retail arena will be felt for years to come.

He was born on August 14, 1938, in Jackson, Michigan. In 1957, he married his wife, Marilyn, and in 1963, they moved to Grand Rapids. Summers began his produce career when he started working with his father at Wolverine Produce Co. It was here where he would buy, sell, and deliver produce throughout central Michigan.

After that, Summers would dedicate much of his career to Meijer. He worked tirelessly to support its produce department with the high-quality, innovative items he wished Meijer to be known for.

Summers had a zeal for staying active and could often be found walking, jogging, golfing, or cycling. His love of life, humor, and hearty laughter are a legacy his family continues to embody.
