Trader Joe's Confirms Plans to Build First Oklahoma Store in Tulsa
TULSA, OK - Trader Joe's is dipping its first toe into the Oklahoma pool. The company has confirmed that it will open its first store in the Brookside neighborhood of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The announcement ends months of speculation that the specialty grocer was coming to town. The Tulsa store is scheduled to open in late 2015 and will be approximately 9,500 square feet, according to Tulsa World. Phillip Allen with Venture Properties, which owns the property on which the Trader Joe’s will be built, told Tulsa World that the store does not plan to sell alcohol.
Mayor Dewey Bartlett called Trader Joe’s announcement great news and believes the company will open a new retail market for the city.
“With the announcements of Costco, Urban Outfitters and now Trader Joe’s, Tulsa is a place where retailers want to be as we have a strong economy, philanthropic and business community, and have a uniqueness that is hard to find anywhere else in the country,” Bartlett said in a statement.
City Councilor G.T. Bynum, who represents the Brookside neighborhood, also had kind words for Trader Joe’s.
“I am excited Tulsans will have access to this world-class store, though my belt buckle is a tad anxious at the thought of all the great food I plan to buy there,” he said in Tulsa World.
