RPE's Samantha Cypher Talks Holiday Potato Season
ARVIN, CA - Mother Nature has not been holding back of late, with prime growing regions across the country facing bouts of weather. While RPE has endured difficult temperatures across its harvest locations, the potato grower has emerged victorious in both volume and quality and is hurtling into the holiday season with delicious spuds for all.
I spoke with Samantha Cypher, Editorial and Publicity Specialist, to get more deets on the holiday potato harvest and what retailers can expect of this season’s supply.
“At this point in time, we have completed our fall harvest throughout most of our growing regions. Although there were isolated areas that were affected by temperatures and weather, including a difficult harvest season in the Midwest, the overall quality throughout the country looks good,” Samantha told me. “Our growers from the western region of the country have a good supply of potatoes, while our growers east of the Mississippi will have a below average volume of Russet potatoes due to weather. Despite these challenges, our other locations throughout the country have seen great success in volume and quality.”
Samantha also said that the market is strong and steady, which is typical for this time of the year. As RPE ships throughout the holiday months, the company will continue to see great demand. As demand increases, moderate price increases will occur as well, with RPE expecting the market to settle after the holiday shipping has ended.
While the holidays are an exciting time because, well, duh, RPE is also celebrating the rebranding of its Tasteful Selections line, which are planted, grown, and harvested year-round out of Arvin, California.
“We’ve introduced 11 new flavors of our Season & Savor® trays, new packaging for more than 100 SKU’s, and we’ve recently launched the new TastefulSelections.com website,” Samantha said. “We also have new and exciting things in store for 2019, and we can’t wait to share the news next year!”
It looks like we’ll all be getting the gift of potatoes come 2019—truly one of the best gifts of all.
