COLUMBIA, MO - May appears to be the month of new grocery banner debuts. In addition to Dom’s Market & Kitchen, Schnuck Markets is stirring up the retail category with its new store format EatWell, A Natural Food Store by Schnucks, which will make its market debut this summer in Columbia, Missouri.

“We’re celebrating 50 years of serving Columbia customers, and their loyalty over these last five decades makes this a perfect place for Schnucks to try something new with our EatWell store,” said Schnucks Chairman and CEO Todd Schnuck. “Our mission as a company is to nourish people’s lives, and we’re excited to be able to build on that mission by launching a store where it’s easy to make healthier choices, while still also being able to pick up a few decadent treats for those special occasions that may be worth the extra calories.”

According to a press release, the location for the new EatWell store was formerly a Lucky’s Market before Schnucks purchased it during a bankruptcy auction earlier this year. Currently, the grocer is remodeling the 42,000-square-foot store in preparation for its new health-and-wellness-focused format, which will feature a natural living department alongside a variety of natural, organic, and local fresh grocery items.

In addition to acquiring the location from Lucky’s, EatWell will also be taking on its employees in order to staff the 80-team-member store.
