Costco Reports November and First Quarter Fiscal Year 2021 Sales Results
ISSAQUAH, WA - It seems Costco’s growth trajectory is ever rising. After recently announcing new development in multiple markets, the company has reported net sales of $15.67 billion for the retail month of November, the four weeks ended November 29, 2020. And for the thirteen weeks ended November 29, 2020—the retailer's 2021 first quarter—the retailer reported net sales of $46.33 billion, an increase of 16.0 percent from last year.
Costco’s November net sales increased 15.1 percent from $13.62 billion compared to last year’s. According to the release, for the twelve-week first quarter ended November 22, 2020, Costco reported net sales of $42.35 billion, an increase of 16.9 percent from $36.24 billion last year.
Excluding the impacts from changes in gasoline prices and foreign exchange, other key takeaways for the 12-week first quarter include:
- The U.S. - a 17.0 percent change
- Canada - a 16.8 percent change
- Other International - a 17.7 percent change
- Total Company - a 17.1 percent change
- E-commerce - an 86.2 percent change
Currently, Costco operates 803 warehouses, including 558 in the United States and Puerto Rico; 102 in Canada; 39 in Mexico; 29 in the United Kingdom; 27 in Japan; 16 in Korea; 14 in Taiwan; 12 in Australia; three in Spain; and one each in Iceland, France, and China. The retailer also operates e-commerce sites in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Mexico, Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and Australia.
As consumers continue to opt for grocery delivery and online shopping, Costco’s e-commerce continues to see huge increases compared to last year.
