Gold Coast Packing Reports Unusually Warm Winter Ensures Steady Market for California Broccoli and Cauliflower
SANTA MARIA, CA - From last year to now is a whole new story for broccoli and cauliflower, which is seeing a steady market, great quality, and unseasonably mild weather to help smooth out any traditional gaps.
“Weather in California’s Santa Maria Valley area has been mild and typical for January, but late last week and into this week we have seen unseasonably warm temperatures in the mid-to-high 70s, even the low 80s—rare for winter, even in California! Meanwhile, the desert region has also seen average temperatures, so growing conditions are right where we want them,” Crystal Chavez, Marketing Coordinator for Gold Coast Packing, tells me. “2021 has started off well when it comes to supply of broccoli and cauliflower. A year ago, both items were tight with lighter supply due to weather conditions.”
It is currently a different story entirely, she assures me, with supply expected to be great over the next few weeks to maintain a steady market balancing supply and demand.
“Volume is average to above average for this time of year for both broccoli and cauliflower, which is perfect for all of those that are eating cleaner and healthier this year, and quality of both veggies has been and currently is excellent,” Crystal adds.
To meet the demand, Gold Coast sets itself apart from other companies with its willingness and readiness to help customers on custom packs sizes.
“We create the item or product that meets their needs or requirements and have the ability to do many trials and customizations where others may not have the capacity or time to work with a customer on projects like these,” Crystal shares.
Gold Coast grows broccoli and cauliflower in California year-round, with cauliflower in the Santa Maria Valley all year long. Currently, the company is growing broccoli in the desert region, with supply in both the Santa Maria and Imperial Valleys.
