Summer Citrus from South Africa Details Current Citrus Market
SOUTH AFRICA - With summer right around the corner, citrus is on nearly every shopper’s mind as they look for healthy ways to refresh in the warm weather. As the highly anticipated season kicks off, Suhanra Conradie, CEO of Summer Citrus from South Africa, recently released a statement detailing the company’s production and the current citrus market.
“We were a little slow out of the blocks, but volumes have started to pick up, and we are busy finalizing our first conventional vessel to arrive week 25, the third week of June with +/- 3,900 pallets,” Conradie stated.
Currently, the supplier is reporting limited volumes of its Easy Peelers and small volumes of the Star Ruby variety, which will all be discharged in Newark, according to the statement.
“In between the conventional vessels, we will have arrivals of containers into Philadelphia as well from week 25,” continued Conradie. “From week 27, we will have weekly arrivals of breakbulk vessels into the port of Philadelphia to move through the peak weeks of production. This fits in really well with our importers and retailers and their distribution.”
Summer Citrus from South Africa is also now moving to peak packing weeks for its clementines, with quality looking good for the variety.
“In terms of production, sizing is slightly smaller, but this should be seen in perspective, as Summer Citrus ships according to DEMAND, not SUPPLY,” explained Conradie.
Across the orange category, Summer Citrus from South Africa has also reported a slightly smaller fruit, which will align perfectly with bagging programs, which have shown extreme growth over the last few years, as explained in the statement. Volumes of all the grower’s categories will be shipped based on importer’s and retailers’ needs.
The grower also revealed it is launching an informative video series to showcase all aspects of sustainable farming that the company does and share what its growers do for their communities.
