Giant Eagle Expands Flashfood Partnership to Northeast Ohio and Pennsylvania; Jannah Jablonowski and Josh Domingues Comment
CLEVELAND, OH & ERIE, PA - As inflation continues to increase the price of food, Giant Eagle is offering a convenient solution to shoppers in Northeast Ohio, including the Market District chain, and Erie, Pennsylvania, through its expanding partnership with Flashfood. In a recent announcement, the retailer revealed that consumers in these regions will have access to the digital marketplace and it will be available to all corporate supermarkets chain-wide in the coming months.
“Our partnership with Flashfood has not only helped us in our mission to reduce food waste, but it has helped us better serve our guests and their families by offering more value-focused grocery options,” said Jannah Jablonowski, Public Relations Specialist, Giant Eagle. “With the success we’ve seen so far, it was a natural next step to expand the program across our supermarket footprint.”
Giant Eagle first introduced the Flashfood program at 34 store locations in 2021, and since then, more than 560,000 lbs of food waste has been diverted from landfills, a release stated. That is equivalent to over 474,890 meals that have fed people instead of being thrown away, saving 1,082,753 lbs of CO2e emissions from entering the atmosphere.
“We are excited to help more Giant Eagle and Market District guests have access to this significant savings opportunity while making an even bigger impact on the environment,” Jablonowski continued.
Flashfood allows shoppers to browse deals directly on their phone or computer through its app. They can find fresh items like produce boxes, meat, dairy, bakery items, and more that are nearing their best-by date. Purchases are then made directly through the app, and consumers pick up their order from the Flashfood Zone located in participating Giant Eagle locations.
“Our expanded partnership with Giant Eagle couldn’t come at a more critical time,” said Josh Domingues, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Flashfood. “With inflation causing grocery prices to soar, this expansion will increase our ability to feed more families affordably and reduce the amount of food reaching the landfill four-fold. It’s a big win for Erie and Ohio shoppers and the planet.”
