Regions of California See Atmospheric River Downpour With the Potential for Flooding
CALIFORNIA - Several areas throughout the Golden State are experiencing the impacts of an atmospheric river moving through the state. Multiple inches of rain are expected to continue hitting the state until Wednesday morning, according to USA Today.
The atmospheric river is expected to "gradually settle southward through the middle of the week as multiple waves of low pressure traverse the front and bring strong Pacific moisture transport" into the coastal ranges, portions of the Central Valley, and the foothill of the Sierra Nevada, as reported by the National Weather Service.
This moisture is expected to result in more heavy rain with the possibility of flooding in the region. "An additional 2 to 4 inches of rain is expected for the coastal ranges, with 3 to 6+ inches for the Sierra Nevada foothills," the NWS said Tuesday.
A flood watch is in effect until 4 a.m. tomorrow in the Bay Area and Central Coast. We will continue to report as we learn more about the potential impacts on agriculture.
