California Table Grape Commission Launches Science and Technology Division; Kathleen Nave Comments
FRESNO, CA - Bringing together several critical areas of innovation under one arch, the California Table Grape Commission (CTGC) has created a new Science and Technology division. With the establishment of this program, the commission has strengthened its long-term commitment to science and technology while helping drive the industry forward.
“Uniting these programs under the umbrella of this new division makes clear the strength of the commitment the industry has made to science and technology,” said Kathleen Nave, President of CTGC. “The depth of experience this team brings to this important area will serve the organization and industry well in the years ahead.”
The new division will focus on three areas of innovation, including mechanization and advanced automation, patenting and licensing, and viticulture research, a release stated. Current Senior Vice President Ross Jones will lead this division as Chief Science and Technology Officer.
With this expanded commitment, new responsibilities have been given to CTGC staff members Dr. Maha Afifi, Dr. Franka Gabler, and Julie Mercado.
Dr. Afifi has been promoted to Director of Viticulture Research and will now lead production research and its related responsibilities while completing the projects on which she serves as principal investigator.
Named Director of Science and Technology, Dr. Gabler will continue providing scientific data and analysis organization-wide while leading invasive species research. These responsibilities will emphasize her work in mechanization and advanced automation.
Lastly, Mercado’s role with the commission has been expanded to include administering the viticulture research agreements and related grant requirements with scientists as she has been named Director of Grant Management.
