Whole Foods Market Debuts a New Format in Brooklyn, New York
BROOKLYN, NY - Amazon-owned Whole Foods Market has taken the dark-store format to heart, recently revealing its first-ever, exclusively-online location in Brooklyn, New York. This operation, which opened September 1, allows the grocer to serve even more customers as the growing demand for online grocery shows no sign of slowing.
Over a year ago, the planning for this new format began, a blog post on Amazon's website noted. Both Amazon and Whole Foods worked closely together to make this new store a reality, hiring hundreds of team members that will work exclusively on fulfilling online orders.
The blog post went on to note the steady climb that online grocery sales have been making over the years. As of now, it is the company’s fastest-growing business. Online grocery sales in the second quarter alone tripled year over year.
