Mucci Farms' Stephen Cowan Details CuteCumber™ Poppers Program Growth
KINGSVILLE, ONTARIO, CANADA - I know I’m hunting down the veggie platter at every holiday party I attend, and if cucumbers aren’t a prominent feature on it, I’ll be a teensy bit upset. I’m not alone in this line of thinking. The demand for the veggie has yet to hit its zenith, and with products like the innovative CuteCumber™ Poppers at play, it’s little wonder. Mucci Farms has seen tremendous growth in this product, and I wanted to drive into why shoppers are reaching for this item time and time again.
“Poppers continue to be a leading product in our winter program that continues to see significant growth year over year. Consumers have responded to the convenience factor, the quality, and of course, the fresh flavor, and we aren’t surprised,” remarked Stephen Cowan, Director of Retail Sales. “The demand for snacking items is well documented and we know that this fantastic product offers a lot of versatility. Especially now, with many getting back to their normal routines, Poppers are a perfect complement to any dish, and also great as an appetizer at family get-togethers later this month.”
With the holiday season on deck, anything red or green is going to add a festive feel to meals or appetizers. Just ask me at an upcoming Christmas party!
To add to the strength of the program, the greenhouse grower has been growing CuteCumber Poppers in Kingsville, Ontario, for a few years now, a milestone that speaks volumes.
“Our first step toward increasing availability was through our industry-leading grow light program, so we are in production 365 days a year. Most recently, to suit our consumer base south of the border, we began production in Ohio, so we are now in the first season of USA-grown Cutecumber Poppers,” Stephen noted.
With demand increasing annually, Mucci Farms is committed to maximizing local production—particularly in the winter months.
“Over 80 percent of our acreage is under lights, and we are consistently growing multiple varieties of tomatoes and cucumbers,” he added. “We are always emphasizing progress on our environmental initiatives, and one of our main focuses is to reduce food miles by increasing local availability.”
