Naturipe Farms' Brian Bocock Highlights Buying Power of National Blueberry Month
SALINAS, CA - Here in the States, the heat of summer coincides with peak berry volumes—and shoppers are clamoring for berries to help satisfy their summer sweet tooth. National Blueberry Month (July) perfectly aligns with this spirit, as retailers look to pump up this mighty berry’s buying power. I talked to Brian Bocock, Vice President of Product Management at Naturipe Farms, to find out how buyers can use this special month to promote blueberries and reap the benefits.
“As blueberries become more popular among consumers, Naturipe is focusing on supplying bigger packs. Consumers are purchasing blueberries on a regular basis during their weekly shopping trips, and a pint is simply not enough,” Brian explained. “We have a lot of promotions being set up with 18 oz and 2 lb clamshells.”
The supplier also focuses on locally grown promotions, which Brian noted provides significant same-store lift in purchases. Across North America, Naturipe has strong footholds to provide locally grown to a variety of regions.
“We’re seeing fantastic quality and our blueberries are just as fresh, firm, and flavorful as always,” Brian remarked as soon as the conversation turned to crop specifics. “Volume is projected to be a bit higher compared to last year. Our retail customers can rely on our consistent quality, which will ensure that blueberry sales are strong throughout the year.”
Naturipe prides itself on working closely with its retail partners to make sure that not only do buyers have consistent supply, but the support they need to drive sales through promotions, advertisements, contests, and more.
“We are the largest supplier of blueberries in the world. Additionally, we are Globally Local™, meaning we have a family of growers all over the U.S. and around the world that provide the best product during their seasons. Thanks to them, our fresh blueberries are available year-round,” Brian concluded. “We are always innovating and looking for new ways to provide consumers more of what they need and want. We work closely and diligently with our partners to ensure success up and down our supply chains.”
With July right around the corner, I’m imagining a lot of retailers will be using blue in order to get that green.
