Summer Citrus from South Africa's Suhanra Conradie Provides Updates on Season
SOUTH AFRICA - Summer Citrus from South Africa (SCSA) continues to see success this citrus season. Not only did it recently wrap up a successful promotion, but retailers and shoppers can continue to look forward to quality products coming to market.
“Last month, we wrapped up our ‘Sweet Escape Sweepstakes,’ our annual summer promotion that drives shoppers to search for SCSA fruit in stores,” wrote Suhanra Conradie, Chief Executive Officer, in the company’s update. “This year, we invited consumers to ‘get away on a vacay’ with ‘The Sweet Escape Sweepstakes’ and shared ways to incorporate citrus into fresh summer recipes to be enjoyed with a sweet get-away in mind.”
According to the release, Navel oranges and Clementines continue to be the most popular types of citrus consumers purchased throughout the sweepstakes. Salads and desserts/treats remain some of the top types of dishes consumers incorporated citrus into. With the monetary/cash incentives for promotion entry, the citrus grower noticed consumers responded well to the promotion.
As we look ahead to the rest of the season, the grower announced its Easy Peelers have shown tremendous growth over the past few years, and the company is now seeing a larger arrival of Mandarins. SCSA’s niche offering Midknights will soon begin to take the place of Navels in the market. Star Ruby grapefruits have also come through with excellent quality, but the grower revealed there is a limited quantity available.
Next week, SCSA says it will load its last conventional vessel, and it is due to arrive around the middle of October.
